Hop-On Hop-Off Thames River Cruise – The Best Way To See London
The Thames is the longest and probably most famous river in all of England, it does run straight through London after all. As you cruise down the river it offers a perfect vantage point to see some of the most historic and iconic landmarks in London. It’s also a great alternative for travelling around London too if you’re sick and tired of the tube. In this blog I will be telling you all you need to know about the hop on, hop off river cruise down the Thames offered by City Cruises.
We’ve partnered with Headout to bring you this blog. In return for this review we were supplied with tickets free of charge, as always though any thoughts and opinions are entirely our own. This blog will also include affiliate links, at no cost to you, but we will receive a small commission if anything is brought via the links, this helps us greatly with running the site.
The River Thames runs from the Cotswolds, through places like Oxford and Reading, and then of course right through the center of London. There are so many different types of cruises that you can get along the Thames, but today we’re going to be focusing on the hop on, hop off ticket that City Cruises offer, meaning you can travel all over, all day!
How to book a Hop-On Hop-Off Thames River Cruise
A hop on and off cruise can be booked through City Cruise’s website directly, prices start from £16.88 for an adult ticket and prices are likely to be higher if purchased on the day. Because we know how expensive a day out in London can be and who doesn’t want to save a bit of money? We recommend using Headout to book your tickets because they offer tickets for only £10, just follow this link! At that price it rivals the London Underground, as you can stop off and get back on wherever you want for no extra fee. Trust me, the views from the cruise are a lot better! Headout also offer a lowest price guarantee as well so you won’t find them any cheaper elsewhere.
Where can you go on the Hop-On Hop-Off City cruise
Also known as the River Red Rover, the Hop-on Hop-off Cruise offers unlimited access for 24 hours and takes you all the way from Westminster Pier to Greenwich Pier, stopping off at places like Tower and the London Eye Pier on the way. With uncompromised views, in any weather, as you travel along the Thames you will see sights like The Shard, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, The London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and even Big Ben.
Review of the Hop-on Hop-off River Cruise
There are so many great things about the Hop On Hop Off River Cruise by City Cruises, we loved it! It’s great that you get to start from any pier, making it so much easier. However If you’ve chosen one of City Cruises’ bundles, like we did with ‘The View From The Shard’, check out that blog here, then you have to start at either one of Westminster, Tower or Greenwich piers to pick up your tickets.
The best thing about the Hop-On Hop-Off tickets has to be that you can get on and off as much as you want to within the 24 hours, it really does create so much freedom. A river cruise is such a great way to explore London, offering a truly unique view, just travelling between Tower and Westminster Pier we were able to spot the Shard, Tate Modern, Globe Theatre, London Eye, St Paul’s, the list goes on! We still can’t get over that this was the first time we’ve ever done a river cruise down the Thames, we’ll definitely be doing it again at some point.
The commentary they offered on the boat as we passed through famous landmarks was really good and informative, I wasn’t expecting it so this was an added bonus, I even learned some new things about London too! Like the story about when the Millenium Bridge opened and it wobbled too much! There’s also a cafe on board serving food and drinks, even a toilet which helps greatly as the time between stops can take a while. You even have the freedom to walk around the boat, both inside and outside which is handy, considering the weather in London has been known to rain quite a lot, even in the summer!
Without hesitation I’d highly recommend using this cruise to experience London in such a fun, exciting way. I hope this blog has helped you learn more about the Hop on, Hop off Thames River Cruise by City Cruises, and provided you with much more information so that you can begin exploring London for yourself!
If you want to get your tickets right now, follow this link and head over to Headout to get your discounted tickets! Or if you’re feeling more adventurous, you can combine tickets to multiple attractions just like we did with ‘The View From The Shard’, you can get those tickets here.
